You can get good steamers on Ebay for 1/3 to 1/2 that.

Use a squirt of Mil Pro 7 on them too. Bought a quart from Impact a couple years ago. Great stuff.

Most of my firearms are bolt-action. Everything else gets WD-40 and air hose.

I have a can of CLP, a bag of 2"x2" lint free cotton swatches and a bore snake for each caliber. Field strip. Wipe down bolt face, frame and other parts exposed to power residue with CLP/cotton swatch. Start the bore snake from the breech, spray CLP on the section with the bronze brush embedded. Wipe off excess CLP, assemble, function test.

I wipe down the AR bolt with the cotton swatch/CLP. For more stubborn carbon build up, a BONE scraper is in the box of tools. I don't think any of my rifles has more than 150 rounds down the barrel, so it simply hasn't been a problem. The strip down for the Henry lever action is a lot of work. I've done it once. The revolvers get the bore snake down each cylinder hole and extra scrubbing on the cylinder face, extractor, and backstrap near the forcing code.

My wife field stripped her Walther PPK 380. The spring has no guide rod and it's really long. I reassemble using a 17 caliber cleaning rod through the front of the frame as a temporary guide rod. Compress the spring over the rod protruding inside and line it back up in the frame. I much prefer captive springs e.g. S&W, Sig, Glock.

Mine are semi auto and I was brainwiped at an early age to not leave a speck of fouling for my DI to find. They knew where to look.

I cannot to this day leave a firearm not spotless. I suppose a single shot or gbolt gun might not need more than a barrel wipe, but habit would have me examining and lubing the bolt and all moving parts.
