It would be interesting to know Reza Aslan's political affiliations. There is a faction known as Mujahadeen Khalk, Marxists who were so opposed to the Iranian revolution that they jumped sides in the Iran-Iraq war, fighting for the Iraqis. That might begin to give some explanation for people or Muslim heritage who have sympathy for leftists, such as the Young Turks.

Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar is the latest public figure to catch the attention of the attorney for the Covington Catholic students, Robert Barnes, who is threatening to sue just about anyone who he thinks spread “libel” against his clients.

“This is libel. Retract, or get sued,” Barnes tweeted, quoting a now-deleted tweet from the Minnesota Democrat in which she claimed the teens were at fault for the confrontation Saturday at the Indigenous People’s March in Washington, D.C., between the students from the Northern Kentucky school and Native American Nathan Phillips.

OMAR TWEETED “The boys were protesting a woman’s right to choose & yelled ‘it’s not rape if you enjoy it,’” Omar tweeted Tuesday night, before deleting the tweet Wednesday morning. I do hope the settlements are large enough so that college and graduate school room, board, and tuition are paid for every one of these outstanding young men.

They did the correct thing. Most often, when an individual or group are approached in a provocative or threatening way, the aggressors are looking for vulnerabilities. If those being confronted retreat or act frightened, they will often be targeted for assault.
