A couple examples.....A friend’s cousin married a blonde haired blue eyed cheerleader for my alma mater’s university. Her dad is from and she was raised in Indiana. Her mom is ethnically European by way of Venezuela. Because of that she counts as “hispanic”. Nevermind that she is even closer to Hitler’s aryan ideal than I am. Their kids will of course register as “hispanic”. They get all sorts of benefits for doing so and get discriminated against if they check the box for White....even though they will be.
My niece married a guy from Chile. His ancestors were Spanish and Portuguese. He’s slightly more olive than our side of the family but anybody would take one look at him on the street and tell you he’s White. But he’s of course “hispanic” and they’d be complete fools to not have their kids check the box for “hispanic” so I’m sure they will.
“hispanic” is no more an ethnic group than “American” is an ethnic group.
