Syrian Christians Fear a New Genocide In Wake of US Pullout
CBN News (Israel) ^ | 02-01-2019 | Chris Mitchell

KOBANE, Northeast Syria – With the pullout of US troops, Christians here in northeast Syria told CBN News their future hangs in the balance.  With the region on the brink of chaos, they’re fearful and warning of a new genocide.

Just a few years ago, ISIS left a scar on the land in the form of an historic genocide in parts of Iraq and Syria.  Now Christians fear another potential apocalypse with enemies all around them.

Turkey is the main concern.

"After the threats of (Turkish President) Erdogan to this region that he wants to take the place of the great force of America, we felt danger because of this void. If it was filled by the countries of this region or another power, there would be danger in general for the people and especially the Christian people,” said Sanharib Barson, co-president of the Syriac Union Party.

The reason many people in northeast Syria are afraid of Turkey is because of what happened last year in northwest Syria, the Turkish invasion of Afrin.

In January 2018, its army along with Islamic militias called the Free Syrian Army began a military campaign to capture the city of Afrin.

Charmaine Hedding of the Shai Fund told CBN News what Turkey’s goals are.

“We know it from the statements that they’ve made that they want to get rid of the people in this area and bring in other people from Syria. So, it’s a population displacement,” Hedding said.

To find out more about the Afrin campaign CBN News Middle East Bureau Chief Chris Mitchell traveled here to the city of Kobane and an evangelical church.  Last year, Christians fled Afrin during the Turkish operation to take over the city.

Some came to Kobane to find refuge, security and a place to worship. ...

It is a valid fear. If Turkey is allowed to invade N. Syria under any pretext, they will again commit ethnic cleansing and massacre of ethnic groups (Kurds, Christians, Ezidi's, Alevi's). Any who oppose Turkish rule.

The reason Turkey has never admitted committing genocide of the Armenians? They cannot admit it, they intend to continue using the same tactics.

So, there must be some sane solution. Such a solution is beyond my pay grade. But I do know friends in Muslim countries who are Christian converts from Islam. It is a dangerous statement.

While I don’t deny the threat from Turkey, the Christians in Syria at least have the option of moving to Haleb or Damascus if necessary.

If the McCain types have gotten their way and overthrew Assad, then the Christians would have been left with NO OPTIONS.

So we are supposed to believe 2000 US troops in illegal occupation of Syria is necessary to restrain our Turkish allies from attacking our Kurdish allies ..

The Neo-Cons and globalists know that if they frame anything in terms of protecting Christians, they can muster support for intervention and political control of a region.

The furthest I’m willing to go is selling/giving them weapons. Nothing beyond that...no air strikes...no cruise missile attacks...and certainly no boots on the ground.

Was CBN as concerned about Syria’s Christians when the US was sponsoring the rebels trying to overthrow Assad? My concern with keeping US troops there is that it’s a scheme to keep supporting those rebels. The McCain-Hillary faction hasn’t given up their dream of overthrowing Assad, and that wouldn’t be good for the country’s Christians

Syrian’s Christians supported, and still support Assad, because he has protected them in the past, and as a minority himself, Assad also has a lot to lose by a radical Sunni takeover.

It was Obama, McCain, Brennan and all the other crypto-Muslims or Neo-cons who tried to overthrow Assad.

No worries; I’m sure Israel will look out for them.

Hahaha. Thanks, folks; I’ll be here all week.

They have them, and I believe we will leave the heavy weapons we have furnished them. BUT, there will be no air cover at some point, which is the issue. Turkey has the largest modern air force in the Middle East and the most modern tanks and many howitzers.

With the right anti-aircraft weapons and anti-tank weapons, Syrian forces might not need more. If used defensively that might be a solution. But that could be used on US allies too, so there are risks.

Yes, it is possible that Israel would take out Turk weapons like they did those of Iran in Syria.

It is a complex conflict.

The boots on the ground are not the issue, except Turkey takes care not to fire on US forces.

The air support is the issue. But what will happen when Turkey attacks our Syrian allies if US is not present? Will we fire on a NATO “ally”?

Yes, we will fire on a NATO ally. If the NATO ally is that far afield that they would be involved in ethnic cleansing, then Trump would stop it. He is no fan of NATO

Is’t been a long time since some of those middle eastern liars had to face each other without other country intervention? They’ve been sponging off everyone for many years. And maybe this will end hostilities when one side actually wins from having no one to fight. And let’s face it, most there have no concept of death anyway as there lifestyle indicates.

Well, we did watch it happen in Efrin (Afrin) just last year. It was known from the beginning what Turkey was doing.

But Russia check mated US.

But yes, we did fire on Russian Mercs (Wagner group) in Syria. Russia denied involvement, which I accept as probably true. I think they were working for Assad or Iran at the time. 300 dead mercs.

We still have troops in Germany.

Syria makes equal sense. Our mere presence keeps Turkey out, because Turkey would not invade and risk a Trump response.
