Spina bífida is not the end of the world, and it sounds to me like the docs were trying to scare this woman with the worst case scenario. The condition has many gradations; I had a friend who was born with spina bífida, had corrective surgery and a shunt installed as an infant, and lives a perfectly normal life. Even the most severe cases (as this one sounds), where the spine is open, can often be corrected or minimized by new surgical procedures. It’s hard to imagine that nobody would have discussed this with her.

I think this woman sounds very defensive and as if she is trying to convince herself that she did the right thing. And because her scenario feeds into the political narrative of the left, she’s found a way of doing it.

Her case is not equivalent to all cases.

There are new procedures, that might not have been available in 2015? Would that include, am wondering- the ability to close up the exposed spinal column working “in utero” ?

Wondering. Assuming the exposure was severe (several vertebrae below the skull— wonder if this would have been possible.

This woman’s “writer” is incorrect. 21 weeks is the 2nd trimester. Point is brought out that there are physicians who advocate for termination, because “they could try again”- their “advocacy” for the “selection” of abortion. This may be as much political for these physicians as rationalization for “a better outcome for the patient’(s) lives. If there were surgical alternatives for carrying this baby to term-— they should have been told that— there is a clear “rewrite” of this woman’s memory, heightened by her emotional sadness of the decision. A “rewrite” that is blatantly political, and thus, subject to a test for honesty.

Came to mind this is sort of like the political forced decision to be used... made by other parents— Like Mary Jo Kopechne’s silenced parents, and incredibly so for Seth Rich’s curiously unchallenging parents (out of fear?).
All of this— including the propaganda piece here in HuffPo... is sickening- the lengths the Left will go.

Yes i too have a friend who was born with spina bifida. His growth was stunted and walks with a pronounced limp...but lives a perfectly normal life. On a side note...he is also a card carrying member of the mohawk tribe...unlike one Elizabeth Warren.
