GOP/Dem Border Deal: $1.3B for Wall, No Increase in Detention Space (only 55 new miles)
Breitbart ^ | February 11, 2019 | John Binder

A Republican-Democrat border security deal that is expected to be offered to President Trump funds about $1.3 billion for a United States-Mexico border wall and includes no increase in detention space to control increasing illegal immigration at the border.

[Snip]

This funding is set to provide about 55 miles of new border wall along the roughly 2,000-mile long southern border. Much like the 2018 omnibus spending, which prevented Trump from building a border wall out of new materials, the deal is set to tack on stipulations as to what the barrier can be made from and where it can be placed.

Defense Department officials have reiterated that Trump does not need approval from Congress and, also, does not have to declare a national emergency to begin construction of the border wall. Instead, the president could have invoked 10 United States Code § 284, which authorizes the U.S. military to build barriers at the southern border, a Pentagon official has testified to Congress.

55 miles from zero is better then nothing

Have the military provide ‘beds’ for illegal invaders

problem solved.

$1.3B is an insult. F them, enough is enough. Declare a national emergency - because it IS - and issue an executive order.

He does not need to declare a national emergency, and shouldn’t, though it would create a huge kerfuffle and Trump likes a good kerfuffle.

GOPe and their cheap labor funders, sold America down the river once again...

If Trump accepts this garbage and does nothing else, he’s toast politically.

Veto the bill, Mr. President. So what if the federal workers are given another paid vacation. If they don’t like it, they can quit and get an honest job instead of doing make-work on the taxpayer dime.

Either shutdown the small piece of unnecessary government that is under discussion and leave it down until we get the wall, or build it with other legal means. This is not a deal to be accepted either way. $1B with strings attached to make it unworkable and ineffective is not a deal.

I was thinking this is where they would land. The problem for Trump is the base wants a lot more (including me). I am not sure Trump gets that point though.

It will be interesting to see where Trump goes with this.

Trump would be smart to come out and state that he accepts the money (1.3 billion) and then use other defence money to fund additional barriers. I hope he has the guts to do it.

Who in hell cares about border BOLLARDS..?

Those are for stopping vehicles.

Bollards DO NOT stop pedestrians, they don’t stop ANYONE on foot, which is the Dem idea.

$1 billion, that’s much more than we give EVERY YEAR to at least 7 different sh*thole countries that hate us.

We could suspend foreign aid to just Iraq for just one year and we’d have enough Wall money —BAMMO..!

Forget it.

Shut the damn government down again and veto everything sent up from Congress, related or not, until they put up $10 billion for the wall with no stipulations about what sort of wall, ICE, beds, etc.

Then ice the cake by declaring the Mexican drug lords a clear and present danger to the US and tell Congress the laws that enable the War On Terror enable the President to take any and all actions required to destroy the Mexican cartels, including building a wall on the Southern border.

If they want to repeal part or all of the Patriot Act, let them, but don't sign the repeal so they have to override a veto to do it.

They called the tune now let them dance to it.
