I've been warning people not to assume too much about these "arrests." "Arrested" might simply mean "detained for questioning."
Don't get me wrong - this entire episode still seems "off."

I think those Nigerian brothers sang like canaries..according to a fox news source, you can see Smollett on video walking to his apartment HOLDING a Subway sandwich bag, also something the brothers told the cops changed everything..they sang, they were hired to do something, so legally they are both innocent of a crime they did nothing wrong except what they were told to do

This keeps getting stranger. The release of the Nigerians without charges would - on the surface - seem to be a vindication of Smollett's original story, yet - within hours - Smollett hires high-profile DEFENSE attorneys.

It’s possible that somehow Smollett tried to use the Nigerians as part of a cover story, and that what they told the police incriminated Smollett without incriminating themselves.

The story that keeps giving - Entertainment website posted pictures of Jussie with his Father, Joel Smollet who was Russian / Polish and passed away in 2015.
Jussie is really playing the race card even though he is half white.

Or people who are lying and are compelled (Telltale Heart) to create an aura of innocence. Like liars who keep casually adding unnecessary details to their alibis.

Apparently they’ve charged the two with assault/battery. Update: the two Nigerian brothers have been released without charges, after being interviewed by Chicago police investigators.
