With Trump’s Tough Deterrents, Many Asylum Seekers on the Border are Giving Up

Pushed beyond their limits by prolonged waits in dangerous and squalid conditions in parts of Northern Mexico, thousands of caravan members who had been waiting to seek asylum in the United States appear to have given up, Mexican officials said, dealing President Trump an apparent win after a humbling week for his immigration agenda.

About 6,000 asylum seekers who had traveled en masse, many of them in defiance of Mr. Trump’s demands that they turn around, arrived in Northern Mexico in late November as part of a caravan that originated in Honduras. Since then, more than 1,000 have accepted an offer to be returned home by the Mexican government, the officials said. Another 1,000 have decided to stay in Mexico, accepting work permits that were offered to them last fall, at the height of international consternation over how to deal with the growing presence of migrant caravans.

Yet the concern trolls troll as they ignore where we’re heading under President Trump - the best President ever to grace the Oval office.

"TOTAL BS"

You are probably right, but I say they are on the right track, perhaps inadvertently. I've always thought the best way to end the caravans & other border crossers is to enlist Mexican help by making sure that they can't get across the border, into the US. I bet Mexico would try harder to stop the migration if they had to deal with crowds of would be migrants on their side of the border.

At one point, there was even talk of Mexico building a wall at their southern border. Trump said he would get Mexico to pay for a wall, he didn't say where it would be.

The Mex officials are LYING. Those people have simply given up on “caravan tactics”. It will now be every man for himself, looking for a way to cross the border where chances of success are greatest. If it were not so, why would new caravans be forming?

What part of last week was “humbling” for President Trump’s immigration agenda? That lead sentence that makes no sense. Trump got some Wall money from the House - after Pelosi said he wouldn’t get a penny - and then proceeded to declare an emergency with three separate pots of money, which will be used sequentially (thus postponing or perhaps avoiding a court challenge).

If that’s a humbling week for this President, woe betide the Libs if he has a “good” week.

Uh...so clearly the don’t need asylum.

Yep. Kinda like Somali “refugees’ going home from here to visit relatives in Somalia.

**About 6,000 asylum seekers who had traveled en masse,**

They can go home en masse.

Interesting if true, but largely irrelevant. What is relevant is the number of illegal aliens actually invading our country with impunity.

YES! The “open borders” assistants tell them they will get jobs, health care, and housing. Then tell them what to say to get amnesty.

The wall is important because it implies, “we do not want you here.”
This addresses a troubling statement by a member of the 1st caravan, “if they did not want us here they would tell us to leave.”
