I didn’t see a baby die of meningitis, but a friend lost her one month old baby girl to it when I was a few months pregnant. As a result, I was terrified every time my son fell ill—which seemed to happen every few weeks.
When he was a year old, I took him in for vaccination, and he was screaming his lungs out. I tried to calm him by telling him that the needle was so small, he would not feel a thing. Then the technician said he was getting two needles. It sure would have been nice to have more combo shots back then!
If I were a young parent today, I would insist on spacing these vaccines out. I nearly died from a smallpox vaccination when I was very little. My mother told me that the doctor had said that if I actually contracted smallpox I would have died. Smallpox at that time had not been completely eradicated by the way. Measles, mumps, polio, etc., vaccines were still in the future.
I think it better children have a few moments of discomfort over the course of a year or two. I know that these days smallpox vaccinations are no longer given, but measles, mumps, and polio are dangerous diseases as well and why throw them at the child all at once?
Patrick Henry was vaccinated against smallpox which was the only vaccination available in the 1700s. I think he would have been pro vaccines; after all, he was a man of reason in the Age of Reason not a Luddite. I think, though, that he probably agree with parents who do not want their young child’s immune system overwhelmed all at once with too many vaccines.
You are not making sense. This must be an emotional issue for you. No one on this thread has suggested not giving vaccinations. The comments are suggesting spacing them out better and prioritizing the effective ones.

Emotional because I’m a girl? please! All the vaccines in this combo are important to give early. One needle or 6 I don’t care you can do it any way you like. I hate seeing children die period. Seeing them die of preventable disease is even more heartbreaking. Your mileage may vary.

The idea that vaccines should be spread out instead of given according to the vaccine schedule is not supported scientifically. It is a falsehood promoted by antivaxxers who do NOT have children’s health in mind.
There are some vaccines that cannot be given at the same time as other vaccines because they simply will not work if given together. For technical reasons, the spacing of vaccines and boosters need to be timed to ensure maximum effect from the vaccine. These technical considerations are taken into account by the multidisciplinary groups who review current practices and recommend the vaccine schedule.

To be fair, I should disclose that I’m a fan of vaccines.
All my kids got theirs as required. But absent a compelling reason, I’m a fan of letting others kids try new vaccines like this one to see what happens to them (if anything) before I consider them for my kids.

Healthy granddaughter (16) was given Gardasil her Pediatrician recommended it failed to warn the idiot mother who does NO research on ANYTHING MEDICAL. She now has 2 VERY PAINFUL INCURABLE diseases Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Thousands of lawsuits, Death suits $6 Mil paid out in USA alone. It was bad enough she was a Preemie less than 3 lbs.

I vaccinated my boys, every one reacted to the Pertussis part of the DPT. But back then they spread the vaccines out over several months to years. First vaccine was NOT until 4 months. The Doc ordered a special one for them that was just the DT shot when he saw that it paralized their leg they got the DPT shot in. He cared that they didn’t react to the vaccines.
It’s a matter of waiting until they have developed their Immune System enough to tolerate the vaccines. Today they are given vaccines with in hours of birth when they have NO immune system.
I am not anti-vaccination. I am however, in no way, ever, going to let anything they've developed in the past 20 years (when they've pretty openly declared they want most of us dead and, certainly want us all dead by 65) into my body or the body of my children.

Autoimmune diseases are an unfortunate and aberrant reaction to immune challenges such as those that occur following infections. They happen when the immune system mistakenly starts making antibodies against “self” proteins instead of the pathogen proteins. They can also occur after taking medications. I had a cat who nearly died from severe autoimmune disease after giving her antidepressants (yes, those can be prescribed to pets).
Do not be tempted into embracing antivax hooey because of this. You need to consult closely with specialists; they may recommend avoiding vaccines and doing everything you can to decrease the chance that he will be exposed to disease. In this case, then you will want to make sure that any children whom he may encounter are fully vaccinated, because herd immunity would be the only thing protecting him.
Sounds good but as in the article I posted the science to support those laudable assertions is not there. If this assertion were true there would not be such a disparity between other Nations vaccination schedules and our own.
As a scientist and a physician I know how much fluff and guesswork goes into decisions that are then reported as scientific by multidisciplinary groups. There is a need for vaccination but there is also a need for studies to effectively & safely administer them and identify subgroups that may be at risk.
Where were you during the Gardasil fiasco?
At this point, the new 6 in 1 combo shot has already been tested in thousands of kids. The FDA does not license drugs until they have been thoroughly tested in clinical phase trials in relevant populations.
