“Why are media people liberal-slanted?”

I think it’s because they’re largely adult children, forever fourteen, in selfie mode, that found fields (journalism, media) where they could succeed and that fed their narcissism and their need to ‘make a difference in the world’ without doing actual labor.

Most of these so called journalists are readers of what is put in front of them
They have no original ideas and can’t write
They tweet and copy whatever the pack says.

Generally, I believe, the problem with the sheeplike acceptance of Leftist dogma, among the mass media, reflects something similar to what you suggest. They are simply too limited in analytic ability & self-confidence, to challenge the fantasy seekers in Academia:
