The early days of the 2020 presidential primary have shown the Democratic Party is in flux and having a robust debate about what its future will look like. And while that debate is centered on progressive policies like "Medicare-for-all," the Green New Deal and how much to tax the rich, it's being fueled by shifting demographics within the party.
New research from Gallup released Tuesday reveals the party is getting less white, more educated, less religious and progressively more liberal since 2001. Notably, the party's liberal shift is mostly driven by white Democrats, while nonwhite Democrats make up a larger share of the moderate and conservative wings of the party.
From 2013 through 2018, an average of 46% of Democrats identified as "liberal," compared with 35% of respondents who said they were "moderate" and 17% who called themselves "conservative," according to Gallup. That's a stark jump from the previous six years: From 2007 through 2012, those who identified as "liberal" or "moderate" were basically the same -- 39% and 38%, respectively.
The change is largely driven by the increasingly liberal leanings of whites and college graduates within the party.
According to the research, the percentage of nonwhite Democrats has gone up to an average of 43% in 2013-2018 from an average of 31% in 2001-2006. White people now make up 56% of the party, a 12-point drop from 2001-2006.

I am 74, if I only had a copy of my eighth grade final exams which I had to pass to ENTER high school I would challenge any recent college graduate to pass them, with the answers which were considered correct in 1958, not some screwball nonsense.
So where are those White Democrats going? and who are they?
White blue collar are leaving the Democrat Party as did white democrats in the South. The result will be the same. The South is now reliably Red (excepting Virginia) and very soon the Midwest and Upper Midwest will be solid Red. If Pennsylvania can solve their Philadelphia corruption problem, they will probably join the exodus.
I like to refer to it as..overschooled, and undereducated.
20 years in college, and a PhD don’t translate into smart, as so many are proving on a daily basis.
As one of my former work colleagues termed it:

“Less white” + “more educated” = lots of lunatics with “minority grievance studies” degrees.
Getting a PhD in physics or engineering doesn't make you smart either. Going to college doesn't make you smart. Going to college is a potentially profitable thing for a smart person to do.

More educated? Like with degrees in women’s studies and journalism and black studies?
They are progressively getting more “liberal”, or realistically, rather leftist, and will continue until their party is the conservative party as in Soviet Communist Party where they were referred to as “conservative”.

When I lived in a town that exists because of the Navy base where ordinance development is the mission, college educated folks where generally conservative. When I lived in Los Angeles, college educated folks where generally leftist freaks.
