Out on $100,000 bail and back on the Empire set for a stint, Jussie Smollett on Thursday insisted he is innocent of conniving a racist and homophobic assault upon himself.

“Today we witnessed an organized law enforcement spectacle that has no place in the American legal system,” the hyperbolic statement added. “The presumption of innocence, a bedrock in the search for justice, was trampled upon at the expense of Mr. Smollett and notably, on the eve of a Mayoral election,” it also noted, tossing more political edge into an already sharply political affair.
Facing a potential three years behind bars for the events of the early morning of January 29, this is the first statement from Smollett and his camp since the performer’s arrest earlier Thursday.

That statement has the stench of Geragos all over it.
Now that Colin Kaepernick settled with the NFL the left has Jussie Smollett to support.
Yeah he should write a check and hire some friends to do it.
And that stench is overwhelming.

Sounds to me like that statement was directed at his poltical supporters as much as it was at CPD.
All of the DemonRat politicians and leftist "journalists" who supported him would sure like it to be.
His lawyers have miscalculated. Left and right are pissed off. Now they are going to feel insulted. He’s digging a hole he won’t be able to come out of. Best to have gone with the mental illness / drug addiction ploy and go for sympathy.

Hubris has consequences, and I assume once this makes the rounds, the Chicago PD will make sure their case is air-tight. Then the Feds will get their turn at the maggot.
