Russia is not now, and never has been, a European nation. It is now, and always has been, an oriental despotism.
Russia is a European nation-but a Byzantine one, not a Germanic or Latin Protestant/Catholic one, which is what most other Euro countries are. Also, Russia missed out on so much that affected the rest of Europe. It never had a Renaissance, or a Reformation, for example.
