President Trump on Saturday announced he plans to sign an executive order soon requiring colleges and universities that accept federal research money to support free speech rights.
Mr. Trump made the announcement at the 2019 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) after he called up onstage Hayden Williams, a conservative activist who was allegedly assaulted while on a recent recruiting trip to the University of California, Berkeley.

That was my first thought also. First Amendment should cover it right?
But the intellectual pseudo-elites rule their subjects with an iron fist. I’m sure there are many who could beat them in court, but what 19 year old kid, trying to cope with the demands of their studies and the cultural shock that goes with moving into an environment, so different from what they were accustomed, wants to challenge it.
We’ll see how the order is written and presented, and you can be sure that academics will challenge it. This should keep the courts busy for quite some time before it get all sorted out.

It’s sort of reminds me of the LBJ Administration and their Rules of Engagement for Thud [F-105 Thunderchiefs] strikes up in North Vietnam dot-dot. They were not allowed to take out Sam missile sites because McNamara and his cabal were afraid that they might incite ill feelings from the Chinese and Soviets who were backing the North Vietnamese Army. This is ludicrous thought.

The First Amendment basically only covers public universities. That is why you are technically safer to speak out at Berkeley than at Stanford which can promulgate any sort of Stalinist “conduct code” it wants. But you can bet Stanford gets hundreds of millions in federal government grants.
