As widely reported in the press and widely discussed on social media venues, a recent Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey indicated that nearly two-thirds of registered voters believe that the Democratic Party supports socialism; further, that a whopping 56 percent of those aged 18-24 and 48 percent of those aged 25-34 favor a mostly socialist system.
Now, for those who may be exclaiming that its time to put a fork in America because were done, the latter two stats are admittedly pretty worrisome, even if one factors in the unreliability of some polls due to selective sampling and subjective interpretation. The numbers in question are even up from those of a 2016 Harvard University survey of adults between the ages 18 and 29, which reported that 51 percent of these did not support capitalism, with only 33 percent percent stating that they supported socialism instead.
On the interpretation-as-a-factor side, theres been a lot of discussion around the dynamic behind millennials and those coming up behind them increasingly gravitating toward socialism. Discounting my unkind comments regarding millennials last week in this space (Ill admit it, they were unkind), it is indeed appropriate to consider such aspects as the perception of socialism on the part of these younger demographics, as well as their perception of capitalism (which in many cases is colored by the same propaganda that draws them toward socialism).

I guess so. That’s as opposed to Trump nazis right? ;-)
You better trademark that right away. LOL You are a hundred percent right. You have to be a moron in the most prosperous, capitalist nation in the world to believe socialism is the answer. Yes, moronnials they are!
Thus, ‘moronnials’. I’m seriously starting to think they believe ‘socialism’ means-—facebook, snapchat, instagram, twitter, facetime and any other means of communicating to other like minded people.
*************
The ‘moronnials’ think socialism is like living in a bigger version of mommy’s basement.
America’s Own Commie has indicated that she loves the POWER and is a self-proclaimed BOSS.
Like Stalin, she is.
“Communism... now there is a piece of moral extravagance. It’s the concession we make to the Slavic sense of morality.”
Ortega y Gasset
We have given up teaching the principles of Free Enterprise in favor of social justice. In spite of the fact that Free Enterprise is the system that creates true freedom and opportunity.
Possibly truer today than ever. Imagine moronnials on Omaha beach.
Back in the late 80s a professor of mine gave sowing of The Wall in my dorm’s common area.
Afterwards he opened up a discussion but I quickly noticed that all the answers being given were about what had been said about the album that preceded the movie. But the thing is the movie doesn’t exactly match up to the prior commentary — notably that it shows Pink as being cheated upon rather than abusive, and even after he finds out he’s still more depressed than vengeful to cheat in return — and I pointed this out.
The movie wasn’t the album, I pointed out, and it could express different things and themes than the album had (been asserted to).
Then the topic of discussion switched to the fascism that subsequently developed to this and since I was so bold before I was asked. What I said, the professor admitted, was “terrifying”.
I said that when a coming generation came to believe their society was thoroughly corrupt they might look at whatever their elders said was the worst and decide it was only deemed corrupt because they’d been so bad, therefore it must be good.
Now, that wasn’t prophetic on my part nor really on the movie maker’s part even if it is what they intended because, at least in my case, I had yet to be deeply aware of Cultural Marxism and the idea of “Useful Idiot” had yet to crystallize in my mind as a persistent ongoing problem ... I was utterly opposed to communism ... and progressivism ... but not because I thought my country was corrupt but because I believed that despite its problems it wasn’t.
Instead, I saw (for example) how the libertine nitwits of the sexual revolution seemed to think, judging by rhetoric, fascism was being a prude and thinking folks should generally have upright morals. Likewise I recognized the highly corrupt double standards of the Democrats as amply displayed by Tip O’Neill’s brash the seriousness of the (ridiculous) charges comment.
Where my lack of awareness came into it is that I had yet to see where the pernicious influence of the far Left was going to pull these future youths in the direction of communism rather than fascism, towards madness rooted in license rather than obsession over soil and blood.
I was also two decades late with my thoughts.
Now, previous generations had shown manly opposition to communism, it is true, and the Left had grown in rebellion and defiance to them. It isn’t that they thought their parents were corrupt but that they were repressed. Socialism, generosity with other people’s means, whatever you want to call it was a more natural fit for them. Their enemies were the Christian, the Jew, the white man, the capitalists. “Fascist” was a catchword to them, it still is, not an analysis.
The truth was and is therefore scarier than what I thought the movie was saying, or could be saying, for it turns out the Left is far more imaginative at wickedness and madness than I could imagine ... and they had a headstart I wasn’t taking into account.
“Reading” about the virtues of socialism........... They won’t like it in reality, I can pretty much guarantee. Certainly some on here have had some interaction with it over the decades in the “real” world.
Yeah, except that communism isn’t Slavic. It was created by two Germans who codified and developed the ideas of a Frenchman.
Millennial distrust of individual ethics and utter faith in bureaucratic ethics ignores the demonstrable truth that ethics diminish as individual responsibility diminishes. Put another way, as the size of government increases ethical behavior decreases. The German martyr and theologian, Martin Buber, delineated this principle in his condemnation of the Third Reich.
Government must NEVER be trusted as an arbiter of justice. It is incapable of morality. Our own Constitution was carefully crafted in recognition of the necessary evil of government. Our political establishment has long forgotten this admonition. The tyranny of atheism in government only evidences that utter corruption.
Germans made it Slavs BOUGHT it
These were REGISTERED voters. polos with registered voters are always skewed toward the left.
Great point & one I hadn’t considered. Millenials think socialism is a system where everybody is equal & gets along & is “sociable” i.e. gets along, because we’re all in one big happy social class.
“Nothing to kill or die for— Imagine!”
No wonder they believe that. They’ve been ricked to sleep with John Lennon’s false lullaby.
