It has some fly-by-wire capability, but not like Airbus. With Airbus all control is via computer inputs, whereas Boeing has mostly a “mechanical” control capability. Boeing has not embraced full fly-by-wire control inputs. The difficulty when engaging in these types of discussions are each jet is essentially different and with various levels of computer control. There are some fly-by-wire Boeing designs, for sure, just not to the level of Airbus.

Friends I know that fly for American and flying 777 transatlantic, they love that jet. The guys I know that fly domestic and mostly 737-type, they are transitioning to Airbus and most are not happy. Loss of tactile control feedback is they major complaint, that and an approach that is more data-management than truly flying the jet.

Opinions may differ.

Cheers.

“Their superb pilots are undoubtedly highly-accomplished veterans of the razor-sharp Ethiopian Air Force.”

Oddly if one looks at third world airlines most often you will find retired American, European and Asian pilots of great skill flying the aircraft. Proper maintenance can be a real problem.

Ethiopian Airlines... I’m sure their maintenance procedures are absolutely top-notch!

It was a brand new plane.
