Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was sentenced Wednesday to a total of 81 months in prison in connection with his guilty plea related to foreign lobbying and witness tampering, a term he will serve including the 47-month sentence handed down in a separate case in Virginia last week.

Got to be since they’re different judges??
Manafort’s case illustrates just how f’d up we are, due to the deep state controlling American society. He is being persecuted because he worked for Trump. As soon as he was sentenced in VA. he was indicted in NY to prevent the POTUS from pardoning him. It’s very possible he won’t ever see the light of day. Had he not been involved with Trump he never would have been charged.
There is something seriously wrong with the piling on and double jeopardy here. Manafort has problems but to persecute him, jail him for life, which is what they are doing, using him as proxy for Trump, is completely wrong.
Manafort is a political prisoner. These crimes were process and not substantive. Why wasn’t hillary ( and her gang) prosecuted? Tony Podesta did the same exact things. Why is he free? Trump should Pardon him right now— full and complete. If Manafort hadn’t been campaign manager for 47 days he would not be going to prison. Let’s put them in prison. Where is AG BARR. Why are we not putting their people in prison?? They criminalize political enemies, but we don’t? TWO STANDARDS OF JUSTICE IN UNACCEPTABLE.
That’s it exactly. It was purely a political prosecution.
Everyone, ESPECIALLY those on FR, should decry this. There are enough laws on the books that any one of us, should the state decide to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law for ANY reason, political or otherwise, could simply target US and do so.
I take issue with people who say “He committed crimes so he should serve”. So he did.
So do we all. And under the right circumstances, we could all end up in that same place.
I have to disagree with both of you. This was a purely political prosecution, as were the convictions against Flynn and Papadopoulos.
Because this prosecution was done under fraudulent premises, it should be thrown out.
I don’t carry any water for Manafort. From all I have heard about him, I don’t care for him. But this isn’t about tax evasion or being an undeclared lobbyist for a foreign government.
This is about using a human being as a weapon to punish and inhibit others who hold different political views.
BTW, this is nothing personal against either of you, I understand the sentiment you voice completely.
I just think the terrain this prosecution was both started in and carried out under is a crime in and of itself.
Well, they got their pound of flesh, but they are greatly saddened it wasn’t a chunk off of President Trump. ;)
All because he helped Trump for a few months.
People using terms like “only” or “far Cry from” whatever sentence, have never done a day before.
Manafort is at least as honest and honorable as the ones who sentenced him.
“”Meanwhile Hillary Clinton roams near and far, free as a bird.
Manafort is at least as honest and honorable as the ones who sentenced him.
And now, the illustrious state of new york intends to levy state charges...charges that, if he is convicted, would be unpardonable by Our President.
Disgusting beyond measure!!
How many days have you served?
This poor man. If President Trump pardons him they’re looking to go after him in state court where a Presidential Pardon does not apply. SICK!
“And now, the illustrious state of new york intends to levy state charges...charges that, if he is convicted, would be unpardonable by Our President.”
The best move would be a pardon by Trump, and then send Manafort to Brazil to live out his life in comfort and safety. The president of Brazil admires Trump. He wouldn’t allow the extradition of Manafort to corrupt New York state. Checkmate, deep state fascists.
Manafort in prison for “failing to register as a foreign agent?” To be consistent they would have to indict half of congress.
But now he faces 16 more charges from the state of New York on mortagage fraud, non subject to Presidential pardon power. Oye veh.
To know that ‘agencies’ have the power to take anyone down just because they are vindictive and can... is dangerous territory and we are seeing it in the United States!
This man is going to prison because he worked for the person this ‘agency’ hates and is after. Makes no sense.. when hillary is free with a pre pardon from the top! how can this happen here? one man.. mueller.. one bunch of criminals.. running the country and hell bent on getting their power back.... and if they do or when they do... we are next! it’s called dictatorship and it’s reached our shores!!!
Good point. They are chilling the idea of public service. We will only have a government of timid bureaucrats (sort of like now) soon.
Already chilled: public expression of political affinity for a candidate. Only 20 people will show up if Antifa will Mace you or beat you with rods and signs and kick you. That ruins democracy. Thousands for AOC, a handful for GOP.
And don't talk on TV, radio, or social media about your conservative opinions. Poison.
