WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Supreme Court on Tuesday endorsed the U.S. government's authority to detain immigrants awaiting deportation anytime - potentially even years - after they have completed prison terms for criminal convictions, handing President Donald Trump a victory as he pursues hardline immigration policies.

So, Roberts voted correctly?
Has he seen the light?
Ruth Buzzy must still be alive, right.
Justice Ginsberg celebrated her 86th birthday last Saturday I believe.
So then Roberts can be a good conservative vote sometimes.
There is nothing “hardline” about detaining a criminal illegal alien when they are released from prison until you can deport them out of here.
I swear to God they put a fake Ginsberg up there. It’s not the same lady. No way no how.
Yeah but the bulb keeps dimming at times.
If you were supposed to be deported....it’s out you go.
Have you ever seen Ruthie and Woody Allen in the same room at the same time?
RE: So, Roberts voted correctly?
YES HE DID.
According to the news:
The court ruled 5-4 along ideological lines, with its conservative justices in the majority and its liberal justices dissenting, that federal authorities could pick up such immigrants and place them into indefinite detention anytime, not just immediately after they finish their prison sentences.
The ruling, authored by conservative Justice Samuel Alito, left open the possibility that some individual immigrants could challenge their detention. These immigrants potentially could argue that the use of the 1996 federal law involved in the case, the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, against them long after finishing their sentences would violate their due process rights under the U.S. Constitution.
“There is nothing hardline about detaining a criminal illegal alien when they are released from prison until you can deport them out of here.”
Agreed. But I am left wondering just what is so “complicated” about deporting a criminal alien. I guess some of the countries that spawned them must be resisting taking them back. Otherwise, where’s the delay?
In dissent, liberal Justice Stephen Breyer questioned whether the U.S. Congress when it wrote the law “meant to allow the government to apprehend persons years after their release from prison and hold them indefinitely without a bail hearing.”
if the defendants awaiting deportation hearings want to be released, I say release them to their home countries.
I wasn’t aware that the courts were tasked with the job of national security under the Constitution.
Morons.
Cue Rocky theme music. RBG is running up the Philadelphia courthouse steps right now.
The new Kennedy vote. He’s like a box of chocolate exlax...
“The Supreme Court on Tuesday endorsed the U.S. government’s authority to detain “immigrants””
They’re not immigrants you g-damn dolts. They’re invading foreign nationals and the commander in chief doesn’t need SCROTUS’ permission on what to do with these criminals. He could order them shot before they crossed the border.
Exactly.
If that is a "Trump victory", then they should also highlight the duplicity of the anti-Americans who argue otherwise, and the very real threat they present to our nation.
Why should criminal illegal aliens be granted bail for a deportation proceeding? Their very presence in the country is unauthorized and illegal. They require detention and deportation, soley at the discretion of the government.
