Gateway Pundit ^ | March 20, 2019 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 03/21/2019 2:24:34 PM PDT by Albion Wilde

For several years The Gateway Pundit has reported on the plight of Sgt. Derrick Miller who sits in prison for life in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Today we are pleased to announce that Sgt. Miller will soon be released from prison!

U.S. Army National Guardsman Sgt. Derrick Miller... from Hagerstown, Maryland, was convicted in July of 2011 for the pre-meditated murder of an Afghan man in 2010.

Sgt. Miller shot and killed an Afghan civilian following the civilian attempting to grab Sgt. Miller’s weapon during a period of intense questioning. The Afghan civilian was a suspected insurgent that was walking through Sgt. Miller’s “platoon defensive perimeter observing their defensive positions”....

Outrageous he spent so much time in prison for an action that probably saved the life of some of his men.

His mon was interviewed today on WMAL in DC. She was just giddy with happiness. Fun to listened to.

She said it ain’t over yet. They are gonna fight to get the verdict over turned.

Bammy used this kid as a pawn. Prosecutors bribed and threatened the two witnesses.

Yes. According to his mom that was exactly what happened.

An attack happened at the site they were previously stationed a few minutes later.

This seems like a pretty liberal site and they play up the African American jailed unjustly angle but the enemy combatant seemed like a real enemy combatant from my reading. Even with between the lines reading of the facts where they may have been aggressively interrogating this guy to prevent another attack, charging him with premeditated murder seems completely unreasonable to me.

So the real facts are this dirtbag was interrogating a prisoner and then he threatened to kill him if he didn’t tell the truth. A fellow soldier witnessed the dirtbag then straddle the victim, point a gun at his head and shoot him and then state “ I killed him. He lied”.

In other words he murdered the prisoner. He was convicted on the statement of one of his own fellow soldiers. His story about the prisoner trying to get a gun was totally false according to the witnesses.

Iike I said never believe dirtbag Jim Hoft or anything from gateway pundit.

Notice how many ignorant fools here immediately jump to the wrong conclusion based solely on a hoft story. By the way did the fake hoft story cover any of the facts? No.

Reading some articles from when he was originally convicted, it looks like the thing that sunk him was eyewitness testimony from one of his fellow Guard members who said SGT Miller told the Afghani that he’d shoot the guy if he lied to him. Then at some point he was straddling the guy on the ground and fired at point blank range in some kind of execution move.

So was the eyewitness lying? Was he mistaken? Is he going to be punished? This whole thing is weird.

Note: both named "Miller"

The testimony said that Mohammed claimed to be working with Americans to fix water pumps. He then changed his story to say he needed to do electrical work.

Miller became suspicious and told Charles Miller and an interpreter to join him so he could question Mohammed near a latrine. Miller asked to borrow Charles Miller's 9-mm pistol before the questioning began.

As the interrogation went on, Miller became bothered with Mohammed's answers and pointed the gun at his head.

"I said, 'Look, if you don't tell me the truth, I'm going to kill you.' I was just using it as a scare tactic," Derrick Miller testified.

Miller said he shot the prisoner after he grabbed for the gun.

Charles Miller said he interpreted the incident differently.

He said Mohammed tried to create distance by pushing on Derrick Miller's chest.

"I never saw the man grab Sgt. Miller's weapon but he did try to create space between them by putting a hand towards his chest, however, he never created space between them," Charles Miller said. "Sgt. Miller then put the gun to the man's head and pulled the trigger. About 30 seconds went by between the time (he) tried to create space and when Sgt. Miller pulled the trigger."

"So,now I will google this guy and find out what the actual facts are"

?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? You seem to have some problems with this story and I can't quite figure out why.

You don't need to go to google, just here:

Congressman Gohmert on Sergeant Derrick Miller Being Granted Parole

Washington, March 21, 2019

Yesterday, Sergeant Derrick Miller was granted parole and will be released from Fort Leavenworth on May 20, 2019 after having served eight years in military prison. Sgt. Miller was serving a Life Sentence at Fort Leavenworth for murder though he acted in self-defense when an Afghan insurgent attempted to take his gun.

Renee Miller, Sgt. Derrick Miller’s mother, appeared at both of her son’s hearings and sent out a statement yesterday which included the following: “I especially want to thank Congressman Louie Gohmert for his valiant effort to fight for this American Son. One meeting with Congressman Gohmert is all it took for this good and caring Congressman from Texas to engage on Derrick's behalf. Congressman Gohmert went that extra mile, he attended two of Derrick's hearings and he fought for his release! I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you live in Texas, you are lucky to have such a devoted and caring Congressman who fights for our brave Sons who fight for us.”

Congressman Gohmert responded, “It has been my honor to advocate for Sergeant Derrick Miller, who appeared to have the deck stacked against him during the Obama administration while Sgt. Miller worked passionately to defend his fellow soldiers in Afghanistan. After first backing Sgt. Miller’s story, an Afghan interpreter was coaxed into changing his story to testify at trial against Sgt. Miller with promises of U.S. citizenship for himself and his family. Since prior efforts to get U.S. visas had been denied, he was more than willing to have a U.S. soldier convicted if it meant safety and legalization for them in the U.S. It was evident that same deck was stacked against Sgt. Miller when witnesses he needed in Afghanistan were not allowed to come testify at his trial in the U.S.”

“Certainly Sgt. Miller was not guilty of pre-meditated murder as he was originally convicted, which is why I testified at a hearing to modify the conviction so he could become eligible for parole. Then when the Board agreed to modify his conviction, he became eligible for parole. It was my honor to testify once again for him at the parole hearing. The faith in God of Derrick and his mother never wavered during the nine-year ordeal. They are very special people. Derrick’s actions actually saved American military lives for which not only got no credit; he was sent to prison. But this good news has brought joy for Derrick and those of us who were trying to help him,” Congressman Gohmert said.

It’s murder.

You don’t get to kill prisoners who don’t cooperate with you.

Every member of the military knows the rules of war. Murder is murder. This guy was properly convicted.

Being granted parole does NOT mean you are innocent. All it means is that you have completed the mandatory minimum sentence before you are eligible for release.
