Coasties served in Viet Nam.
The landing craft at Normandy and the various pacific island campaigns in WWII were piloted by Coast Guard personnel. Among them was actor Eddie Albert, though he had left the Coast Guard in 1943 to accept a commission in the Naval Reserve.
