I agree about feigning resistance to leakage but so many of these rags are McClathy, Gannett and other top-down outlets - they don’t even get a say in what technology is implemented (poorly or otherwise).

The Gannett web template (USA Today, et al) is nigh-on unusable and always has been yet they stick with it.

that’s actually the norm for most print pubs that converted to digital.

Instead of hiring experienced web experts that know what the hell they’re doing, they try to convert clueless surplus printer devils, layout techs, and the like to avoid layoffs and/or because of the unions, and the results are pretty much what you would get from trying to convert coal miners to “coders” ...
