U.S. jobless claims fall to 49-year low, below all forecasts

Filings for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell, dropping to the lowest since December 1969, as the labor market tightened further.

Jobless claims decreased to 202,000 in the week ended March 30, below all economist forecasts, Labor Department figures showed Thursday. The four-week average, a less-volatile measure, declined to 213,500, the lowest since October.

The surprising drop in claims is an indication that the labor market continued to tighten, with employers holding onto workers and loathe to let them go.

The level of continuing claims, which had moved up in recent months, fell the most since November in the week ended March 23.

At the same time, the ADP Research Institute said this week that firms added the fewest workers in March since 2017, potentially signaling some weakness. A Bloomberg survey of economists had forecast a gain of 215,000.

Continuing claims, which are reported with a one-week lag, fell by 38,000 to 1.717 million in the week ended March 23.

The unemployment rate among people eligible for benefits held at 1.2%. The level has been unchanged since May. The previous week’s claims were revised up to 212,000 from 211,000.

In its proper perspective, in a REAL world with sane, rational voters, this fact ALONE would assure anyone in the WH, another term

The guy could get caught with his hand in the cookie jar and STILL get another term! :)

LOL, weakness my butt! The reason that the ADP research institute claim that the fewest number of workers were added since March of last year is precisely because the labor market is tightening and employers just cannot find the workers.

and increase h1b visas. Lots of over 40 tech workers out there. Companies would rather leave a job unfilled than hire “geriatric” techies.

Trump's 2nd term is a foregone conclusion

Only an armed rebellion (led by lunatic Liberals) will succeed in interfering with that.

I get the impression they KNOW that and it sort of explains their off the chart, excessive, over-the-top, (even for THEM)demonstrations of reckless and irresponsible language and conduct.

In the last Presidential election, Liberals reached the apex of voter fraud, throwing money like confetti at candidates-in absolute in desperation ..and even THAT failed.

They're at the end of their tether. Wholesale and unrestrained crime is the only thing remaining for them... and we need to be ready

Really? There are MILLIONS of people STILL out of work.

Armies of mildy disabled folks who could now FINALLy be hired. Able-bodied people with non-violent records, young people with crap college degrees that will will need a few years to get their minds right.

Remember the record number of people who went on “SS Disability during the Obung-hole years?

Close the damn border and put EVERY American back to work. Slash the ‘Disabilty” roles. Get the Food Stamp crowd WORKING.

Companies are sitting on record amounts of CASH.
Stop the BS buyback crap and TRAIN your workers.
Hire new folks and TRAIN THEM.
Build new plants in the US and hire more folks.

It’s a virtuous cycle.
More workers means more customers.

After people finished collecting their 102 weeks (almost two full years!) of unemployment payments, many of them went on SSI disability payments. Some retired after the two years. Lots of room for scams on the taxpayers.

The job market is so strong that even the barmaid, AOC, got a promotion. She seems to be an ingrate about the whole thing, though.
