Cause I live on Staten Island and I KNOW almost exactly how much it costs for a day of driving and working in Manhattan from an outer borough.

My youngest brother lives in Ft. Lee and works in Manhattan at a fancy bank. He’s a mid level executive making well over $100,000 a year. He’s a middle aged white guy, married, with 2 teenaged sons.

I talk to him frequently and once asked why he doesn’t drive into his office. He told me doing that every day would eat up about 25% of his pay. He simply can’t afford it. He also told me it would add 2-3 more hours to his daily commute.

I bitch about a 60 minute drive and $20 a day to park in Chicago. Granted I usually leave my home at about 5:45 am to beat the traffic and be in the office by 7. It also gets me the early bird parking rates.

I can’t imagine it costing over $100 a day. I wouldn’t take the job in the first place.

I suggest you read this NYT article and learn more about the proposed plan that will not be implemented until after 2020. It will also apply to trucks that make deliveries into Manhattan and even to people who live within the congestion zone.
