Not an excuse but just for the record I am Jewish and study Jewish Bible commentaries every day (99% of the days, anyway). I am a strict teetotaler and never drank more than 1-2 beers in a month or two before declaring I will stop around 1980. So if the choices are drunk or sexist pig then I'm the pig.
Why? My late mother was an alcoholic and abused my sister and myself. Was a defiant and repeated drunk driver let off by lenient judges. She hated men and proudly declared about my childhood "I broke his spirit. It took me a while but I broke his spirit." She wanted to insure she could control me without a husband after divorce when I was a child. Anything masculine ="You're just like your father."
