Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

I really wanted to hear more from that French politician or reporter (not sure who he was). He was *correct* to mention the very recent attacks on other French cathedrals throughout Paris by Muslims. I really wanted to hear more.
My thoughts exactly. Climbing a flight of stairs to start a fire is such an inconvenience. It would have been more like them to learn how to fly a jet airliner and high-jack a few and then fly them into buildings. Less chance of getting caught, because that's what scares them most.

Look at acid tosses in London, 1200 since 2011. Driving cars into crowds of tourists. In Franc if you burn churches some will re-open as mosques. Burn famous churches fewer tourists.

Yes. I’m not Catholic, but I find this heart-breaking. How could the world lose something like this?
So tired of hearing the “talking heads” making excuses for what appears to be lack of response. They say it’s not easy fighting a fire in this place. FD’s all over the world look at their areas of responsibility and make “pre plans” on what to do if this plant or this building has a fire. If they need different equipment, they get it. NO EXCUSES if the response was lacking due to either equipment or plans.
I just emailed Newscorp and told them to lose the jagoff.

The fact that the fire is taking place during Holy Week is mentioned.
My guess is: no. They didn't.
I'm still open to terrorism, especially of the Muslim variety, but it's hard for me to see how that happened if the fire started near or on the roof. Maybe an inside job.
