Well look, Obamacare is horrible - without subsidies many could not afford insurance
Its a pretty good deal for the insurance companies no?

Does everyone thinks it will be premium free.
I'm on SS and paid into the system since 1960.
Now retired, EVERY MONTH, they take $134.50 out of my SS check for Medicare Part B.
They'll have to pay more than that since they haven't paid into the system year after year.

How does Congresss health plan work? Wasnt there a proposal to simply extend it to everyone?

I agree.
One thing though: We know that Republicans have no intention of repealing the ACA, so can’t President Trump issue an EO to make everyone - unions, Congress, and their staff - be on the ACA? If they had to deal with what we do you can bet there would be some changes.
I think obama’s EO exempted Congress and unions (and muslims if I’m not mistaken). It seems that a Trump EO can force everyone into it.
What am I missing?

I’m sure the ‘question’ was put forth in the following context:
“Do you agree with everyone having Medicare available if they don’t have other health insurance?”
If they asked, do you want to socialize medicine, they wouldn’t get a yes answer from anywhere near 31% of Republicans.
That said, if we don’t want socialism shoved down our throats we have to be aggressive against it - which includes having alternative capitalism-based plans to deal with major societal issues, such as health care costs.

[Because almost 100% of everyone hasnt been taught the incredible value and economic common sense of the Free Marker Economy. ]
We don’t have a free market in medical care. The moment emergency rooms were required to take all patients without reference to ability to pay in the 80’s, medical costs started skyrocketing. Insurance company, Medicaid and Medicare monopsony power, such that big buyers of medical services get 90% discounts, further distorts the market so everyone has to buy medical insurance. Take away monopsony power, such that bloodwork doesn’t cost $5000 for self-payers, and $600 for insurance companies, and individual buyers start being able to afford to self-insure. Make billing transparent and up-front, legally forcing hospitals to provide an up-front bill with only 10-20% wiggle room, and patients will finally have some confidence about going to the doctor, before benign conditions become urgent problems.

“So, yeah I expect well have full-blown socialized medicine here in the U.S. before long.”
Usually, you’re a pretty smart guy, but with this comment you’ve fallen down flat on your face and broken your nose. Now go scramble off and get your face fixed by a socialist doctor with Trotskyite beard. Or you might find a clinic that accepts cash-on-the-barrelhead.
