I've got nothing against the elderly, but there's a sort of Bell Curve involved with age and useful service.
On the left side of the curve, people are too young and inexperienced to be of good service. In the middle of the curve are the prime years of useful service, while on the right are the declining years.
Naturally there are outliers, but the above is the normal, well accepted norm of most human lifetimes, vis a vis productive output.
It's become a real problem among the elected class. We simply have too many people trying to serve beyond their peak performance years.
