That’s wonderful, but every three months the NRA is begging for money from millions of folks who almost live check by check and give because they are afraid of losing their right to own a firearm. Every mailing from the NRA is loaded with threat after threat after threat, while troweling out over a million to LaPierre. I know, Wayne can tell us to ‘eat cake’ if we are (figuratively) out of bread.
Oh, you must have misunderstood! I’m on your side. Way too much begging for funds to pay him that much. We won’t even talk about the others that are receiving close to that!
La Pierres hefty compensation might be almost acceptable if he was effective in his job, which he is not. He is a poor communicator and public face of the NRA and I cringe watching him on TV. Like it or not it is important for the leadership of an organization like the NRA to present good arguments for the cause and present those arguments in a way that doesn’t turn off those who are on the fence. La Pierre fails on both counts. It is also noteworthy that no one has accused him of being a real gun guy. I have no verified numbers but I’m willing to bet that many people would be surprised at how few rounds he sends downrange every year.
