The Marshalls are part of the “Freely Associated States”, which, along with Guam, are pushing for increased subsidies. Persuading the UN to visit and comment seems political chess. And, adds the activist element of ‘compensations’ to the pot. Which would up the ante on those subsidies and provide an excuse for repetative scientific grants. Along with the possibility of strengthening the image of a politicized UN which would insist on oversight of any ‘research’. (placing themselves as a middle-man between the FAS and the US)
I don't know - I'd guess not. AGW folks are following H.L. Meken's dictum, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”
These two seem to be refuting the 'hobgoblin' of Fukushima radiation destroying the Pacific Ocean.
I'd guess that they are 'straight shooters'.
Guterres did not directly address what should be done with the dome but said the Pacific's nuclear history still needed to be addressed.
But not the atmospheric tests -- including Czar Bomba -- carried out by the USSR and China. He's just another America-bashing UN ***hole. Thanks blueplum.
