Please at least read what you are posting. That order applies to records kept by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).

The bill would allow the commissioner of the state Department of Taxation and Finance to release a state tax return that has been requested by one of three US congressional panels for a “specific and legitimate purpose.” (Different article).

Didn't Hillary live in New York?

Can we get one of the panels to go after her tax returns?

That applies just to the National Archives apparently, IMO.

The IRS has to follow laws that prevent the release without taxpayers’ consent.

That’s an ex post facto law.

I would imagine Trump’s tax returns are works of financial art.

Top New York Democrats should examine federal copyright law carefully.

What are they gonna do when Trump’s tax returns are finally revealed and it turns out there’s nothing there?

Equal protection means everyones tax records should be public then.

They can’t target an individual overtly but they can target the whole population of the state which they did. More wealthy individuals will take their tax dollars and, alas, their liberal voting and funding habits to other heretofore non SocialDemocrat states.

Is it legal to pass a law targeting one person?

It doesn’t negate Federal law. These are state tax records which mostly duplicate the information on federal tax returns. It is an “end run.” The New York Legislature is presided over by a descendant of Max Robespierre.

Accuse him of a cover up, of course!

Any records held by NARA might be, but tax records are held by the IRS.

The law would apply to any elected official who has filed a NY tax return, not just Trump.

“Hard to believe they could get away with releasing his federal tax returns.”

They can’t.

Passing laws in order to go after a specific political enemy? Sounds like a Supreme Court case to me.
