I wanted to record a county inspector soliciting a bribe, but it turns out it’s a felony here to do so. Given that I had no proof that was what was going on, I couldn’t even file a report as this is a small county and it seems everyone in every office is related.
I complained to his office just explaining the unbelievable things he was asking for and got a different inspector who signed off. But there are only three inspectors in the whole county. It’s a miserable situation as they all have my number now.
Aren’t there special laws for whistle blowers? You many not have been told the truth?
Frauds Exposed Under Whistleblower Law
A general rule of thumb is that any fraud that impacts federal or state monies or is a violation of any federal/ state regulation can be exposed under whistleblower law. Whistleblower attorneys represent their clients, as well as the government in such actions. Federal False Claims Act covers actions that aim at recovering defrauded federal dollars, while state statutes enable recovery of state / municipal funds that have been misappropriated.
