The Rolling Thunder motorcycle ride may not be coming to an end after all, following a generous gift to the veterans advocacy organization and emphatic support from President Trump.
The president, while traveling in Japan, vowed Sunday that the 30-year tradition would continue in Washington, D.C., after the group said rising costs for permits would force them to move the motorcycle ride elsewhere next year.
"The Great Patriots of Rolling Thunder WILL be coming back to Washington, D.C. next year, & hopefully for many years to come. It is where they want to be, & where they should be. Have a wonderful time today. Thank you to our great men & women of the Pentagon for working it out!" Trump tweeted Sunday morning.

Same thing would have happened under 0bama...
NOT.
That’s a very thoughtful gesture. However, I thought one of the main reasons for the bike ride ending was that everybody is getting older, and few replacement bikers are signing up.
I often hear that Gen X and the Millenials are not that into biking in the same numbers as their Boomer pals.
I believe hats true, from what I see. Like boxing, enthusiasm for motorcycle riding is confined to older generations and younger riders in certain ethnic groups.
Boy as an ex boxer and HUGE fan, I recall that we would NEVER miss a heavyweight fight before going out on saturday night if it was a big one.
Going back 30 years and it’s NOTHING like what it was.
TOO long in between fights and big money ruining it made me lose some interest.
And the MMA draws the younger generation in now.
It was great in its day.
Older boxers don’t die...they just forget their names :)
The military should have copyrighted (or registered as a trade mark or service mark?) Rolling Thunder.
In the books about Rolling Thunder (the 1975 Bob Dylan tour which is now represented by a forthcoming Martin Scorsese movie and a big set of CDs on sale just coming out this month) it said a Native American had the name.
Later the Vietnam War operation to carpet bomb.
Now a motorcycle group.
I was astounded. When I first saw the procession of Rolling Thunder it was 15 years ago. It was a blast. This week-end their presence could have stretched from sea to shining sea.
correction....on Rolling Thunder
not “later” the Vietnam War operation to carpet bomb-—it was earlier than 1975. Should have said “also”.
I often hear that Gen X and the Millenials are not that into biking in the same numbers as their Boomer pals.

I guess that could be true, but I do know that it’s extremely popular all over Europe.
