No, the EU is the least bad choice - otherwise I would ask you - what if the USA broke up?

Sir, I recall when there was no European Union. Perhaps you do as well. Nations defended themselves, or entered into alliances for mutual defense.
I recognize that you are much, much closer to the situation than am I, however from this side of the Atlantic it looks as though the European Union, rather than preventing little nations from being dominated by Germany and France, has been the vehicle by which the little countries have been “conquered” by Germany.
Liberty is a precious thing. Nationhood is a precious thing. Both can (I sincerely hope) be preserved by means of adroit diplomacy. Those are my thoughts on the subject.
As for the USA, there are four or five counties in California that should they break off and form their own nation, the rest of America would benefit from their departure.
