The Salt Lake Tribune reports the state plans to charge a $10,000 application fee and an additional $100,000 annual licensing fee for those chosen, according to draft rules for Utah's new medical marijuana program published last week.
State officials say the license fees are meant to offset the expense of adding personnel and equipment to inspect the growing facilities.
If all 10 grower licenses are granted, revenues to the agriculture department could top $1.1 million the first year and hover around $1 million over the following years as cultivators pay the renewal fee.
The state's agricultural department expects to spend more than $560,000 each year to oversee cannabis cultivation and plant sales. State officials predict these costs will likely rise over time as the program grows.

“Utah proposes medical marijuana grower fees upward of $100K”
Government...just like the Mafia...wants a piece of the action. At least the mafia would leave you alone if you play ball...government never will.
They must be planning to grow one heck of a lot of pot for a state with only 3.1 million people.
Or maybe they don’t want anyone growing.
Uh...who didn’t see this coming? Wasn’t one of the reasons for legalizing pot to make it cheaper?
That occurred to me too. $10k application fee (app. fee infers no guarantee of getting a license) and $100k per year? Pretty heavy capital outlay for any startup business. A lot to absorb before taking a profit.
They’re not gonna get as much tax revenue as they think. It will be cheaper to get pot from the illegal dealers, so...
Excessive fees are like a ban, encouraging black markets.
Did anyone really expect less when more and more legalization became the norm? Its all about the money. More money equals more taxes equals more spending.
Here are a couple of interesting photos on that subject...

And how many of those inspectors will be bought by the growers to make sure they pass inspection? Somebody, besides the government, is going to cash in on all of this, if they haven't already.
Government, legalized extortion
Seems like the folks that might get relief from using pot will never be able to afford it without some insurance co-pay or government subsidy.
LOL!
Nobody thought states were passing friendly pot rules in order to give citizens their rights, did they?

Works for me. Maryland has Medical Marijuana. It seems there is a dispensary on every street.
Obviously we have the sickest population in the country with every citizen the victim of some chronic illness.

CBD oil is amazing. Doesn’t cure everything. But it works great on pain in many cases. Totally devoid of psychotropic effects too.
