Mexico rejects idea to keep Central American asylum seekers
Washington Examiner ^ | 06/03/19

Posted on 06/03/2019 2:05:34 PM PDT by Liberty7732

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said Monday that his country would reject a proposed solution to the immigration and tariff stand-off with the U.S. that would involve it keeping Central American asylum seekers.

The proposal, which has not been formally made by the U.S., would involve Mexico being designated a "safe third country" for the immigrants, meaning that refugees passing through Mexico to the U.S. would first have to claim asylum in Mexico. The U.S. has a similar agreement with Canada.

"An agreement about a safe third country would not be acceptable for Mexico,” Ebrard told reporters shortly before a meeting in Washington, D.C., with U.S. officials. “They have not yet proposed it to me. But it would not be acceptable and they know it.”

Let’s go to 10%...then 15%...then 20%... Also, somehow put a “fee” on money wire transfers.

Does Mexico prefer a 25% tariff rather than keeping the Central American migrants?

Mexico has received countless monies from the US with no strings attached, it has ripped off the US in many ways with the acknowledgment of the US and in general, has behaved as an enemy of the US. We owe their government no mercy. Protect the border or suffer.

ICE reported citizens of some 130 countries are jumping the Mexican border.

How much is Mexico collecting to allow this?

116 Congolese were just apprehended by ICE.....where do these people get the thousands of dollars for food and transportation to get to the border?

Its likely govt's are paying the freight b/c they cash in bigtime from remittances of the gravy train tax dollars.

There's no need for Mexico to keep these illegal Central Americans cared for in their country.

Instead, negotiate Mexico into enforcing their own immigration laws and tightening their southern border. Their laws are real strict about just walking across the border. They throw them in jail.

IOW, Mexico is no enforcing their immigration laws at their southern border. Stop the illegals from forcing their way into Mexico. No caravans in Mexico heading north, fewer illegals to deal with when and if they get to our border.

I trust Trump's negotiating skills over anybody else's. Mexico will cave. He's got them set-up to accept something that he wants them to do. They just don't know it yet.

“...ripping the US taxpayers off to the tune of billions of dollars in social programs...”

Maybe we shouldn’t have the social programs. They’re a ripoff to the taxpayers no matter what.

This sounds like, “Hey! I voted for that tax ripoff for myself! Not some damn illegal alien!”

That’s fine, they don’t have to keep them..

They can move them back to their southern border and put them on the south side of it.

Just like we are.

Create a DMZ 50 miles on the mexican side of the border, mine the hell out of it, and kill anything that tries to cross it.

We have a working model between N & S Korea, if needed.....

Well in that case, your goods are not acceptable in America.

How about if Mexico uses force to keep them from entering their country to begin with?

Maybe we should do what Arab countries do: PAY millions for 40 minute ‘speeches’ by the crooks who run our government.

That way we could ‘buy’ American troops to fight Mexico for us...

Hope Mexico enjoys the tariffs.

5% per month...

Enjoy...

Well, if you don’t want them in your country, why are you allowing them to cross the border into it??

You asking Mexico or US?

Mexico. Seems a little late to object to their presence when you did nothing to stop it and they’ve moved across your entire country, and THEN it’s a problem?

Mexico doesn’t accept them but we do and then expect Mexico to solve our problem. I’m not saying Mexico is innocent, I’m saying we are the crazy ones.

How do they get here? Crossing Mexico. They are Mexico’s problem before they are ours and it’s clear they do not care.

They cross Mexico and THEN we accept them across our border. And set them up. And put them on social services. We could stop the flood into our country tomorrow. But we don't.

Trump is actually fighting other Americans in trying to stop the problem. To quote Harry Truman "The buck stops here."
