The National Park Service (NPS) quietly removed a visitor center sign saying
the glaciers at Glacier National Park would disappear by 2020 due to climate change.
As it turns out, higher-than-average snowfall in recent years upended computer model projections
from the early 2000s that NPS based its claim glaciers “will all be gone by the year 2020,” federal officials said.

I remember. And I remember that Huntley Lodge in Big Sky, Montana was owned by Chet Huntley. I never stayed there, but the bus from Bozeman to West Yellowstone made a stop at Huntley Lodge. Fly in to Bozeman. Bus to W. Yellowstone. Snowmobile all over The Park and down to Idaho Big Springs, where Clark’s Fork (?) comes out of the ground.
Should have been replaced with a sign that says:

I was just going to post exactly that. I remember Mom & Dad watching that news broadcast in black and white in the late 50s. B&W ran 1956 to 1965.
They should have left the signs and put up a picture of AlGore next to all of them.
I remember that imminent new ice age. I was in school during that. Talked all about the steps man could take to prevent the coming catastrophe.
Saw a glacier at a NP in Alaska. Forget which, the timeline of the glaciers “retreat” is marked along a trail following the glacier. There are places were the remains of houses from the 1800s are being found. The former owner fled from the glaciers. Evidently these things can grow fast and literally move to envelope everything in its path.
As kids, in school for this frightful news, we lived in what was the path of the last great glaciers in the Midwest. The news scarred the bejeebers out of us. So even though I’m much older I cannot work up any concern over some extra warmth.
They could just put those little flip-numbers on them like they have for the industrial accident signs. “No Global Warming for __ Days” It would be cheaper than breaking out the flamethrowers to make the computer models come true.
Won’t they look silly if the glaciers ARE all gone in the next 5 1/2 months?
I guess the science isn’t settled, and the “deniers” were right.

They should have left the signs until the Democrats took over. Imagine seeing that sign in 2025.
