I have lived very close to the Great Lakes for over 60 years and still do.
I have seen water levels much higher than today and much lower. Water levels in the Great Lakes are variable, much like the weather. What a surprise.

IIRC, 1969, our 150 yards of sandy breach front on Lake Huron was about 50 yards all summer.
