Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Wednesday is expected to sign into law the Reproductive Health Act, which he said would make his state the most progressive on the issue.
The measure, which lawmakers said codifies existing practices, removes restrictions on abortions later in one's pregnancy and any criminal penalties for physicians who perform them, according to ABC Chicago station WLS. The new law also repeals Illinois' partial birth ban and the state's 1975 abortion act, in addition to expanding insurance coverage for procedures and for contraception.

Good point. Might be worth associating that for people whenever they start using ‘progressive’ like it’s a good thing.

It used to be that "progressives" said "If everybody had contraceptives ---
and that's what Planned Parenthood is all about ---- there would be no abortions."
And...? Contraception instead of Abortion? Sure, it's intuitive, sounds good in theory, "If abortion is the fire, contraception is the water", right? but history and human nature show it doesn't work that way.
We've had contraception since Margaret Sanger started her first clinic 103 years ago, in Brownsville, NY. (1916! How time flies!) And what we've learned is that contraceptive acceptance boosts the demand for abortion. I don't have the space to explain it, but it's true.
Turns out, if abortion is the fire, contraception is the gasoline.

Brownsville was initially Jewish factory workers --- it was still that in Sanger's day. Now it's 98% "minority" (construe that as you will) and the highest poverty and crime rates of any neighborhood in New York City.
Law of unintended consequences...

The bishop of Springfield, Illinois (one of the courageous ones), has barred from receiving Communion in his diocese any of the politicians who voted for the measure.
