President Donald Trump’s economic policies, coupled with the Republican-led tax reform plan in 2017, have added trillions of dollars in wealth to Wall Street, padding the retirement accounts of tens of millions of Americans.

On Tuesday, the president managed to boost the stock market just by tweeting a message of encouragement: He says he and Chinese President Xi Jinping will have an “extended” meeting at the upcoming G-20 meeting in Japan next week.

“Had a very good telephone conversation with President Xi of China. We will be having an extended meeting next week at the G-20 in Japan. Our respective teams will begin talks prior to our meeting,” he wrote.

As of midday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average had surged more than 400 points, though it has fallen off a bit since then.

Now that we’ve seen the minimal effects of the trade war on the U.S., and already absorbed the blow, Xi is in a MUCH weaker bargaining position.

Nor would I characterize a 1.35% move up as a "soar," any more than I would characterize a 1.35% decline as a "plunge."

The media is doing the public a disservice by using such “loaded” words. Emotion has no place in investing.

If we “win”, Trump has GOT to let the Chinese save face, i.e., not gloat. No good can come of it. Let others do the gloating.

This may be downright impossible for him.

Just the opposite... making the point that the Dow isn’t desperately awaiting news of compromise.

I believe President Trump will be very gracious after he secures his position with China’s Xi.

Or, it might be interpreted that the market soared on Trump’s pending announcement he would run again.
