SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California's nation-leading gas prices are set to climb even higher Monday, when the state gas tax increases another 5.6 cents a gallon.

It's the latest increase from a 2017 law designed to raise about $5 billion a year for road and mass transit programs.

A 12 cent-per-gallon boost came that November, and voters last year rejected a Republican-led effort to repeal the law. But Southern California voters did recall one Democratic lawmaker who helped pass the measure.

California motorists were paying an average $3.75 per gallon as of late June, far above the national average of $2.71 calculated by AAA .

The tax-insane DemocRATS in Sacramento, let by the states' new "governor" (Newsome), relative of Nancy Pelosi, continue their oppressive tax funding of runaway poverty, homelessness, and illegal immigrants.

Gas tax, or Gasoline tax?

Gas tax would be methane, right. No Flatulence.

Meanwhile, all the gas(oline) stations are doing brisk business.

Why can’t the do-gooders in Hollywood be tapped for the needed cash?

They are all for spreading the wealth, right? Right?

$3.55 today, in AZ I paid $2.59 last week. Most roads in SoCal are in worse shape than my Dirt Road to my House.

True, they have plenty of cash.

As de Blasio says, the problem is not that there isn’t enough money, the problem is that it’s in the wrong hands.

Since so many of these Hollywood types are multi millionaires, they got the cash, they should hand it over.

It’s pathetic really. The Government doesn’t explore for oil, they don’t survey, they don’t buy the rigs responsible for drilling, they don’t prep the land for drilling, they don’t drill the oil, they don’t transport the oil to a refining facility, they don’t refine the oil, they don’t synthesize the oil into its varying grades and uses, they don’t bottle or can the oil, they don’t transport the oil to consumer sales facilities, they don’t sell the oil.

They buy the oil, they heavily regulate the oil, they stand in the way of entrepreneurship and they tax the hell out of oil. Government is the problem and has never been and never will be a solution.

The Gubmint makes more off a Gallon of Fuel than the People who produce it.

But isn't that tiny little extra tax worth it for the temperate weather, scenic beauty, first rate government, low crime rates, diversified neighbors, health care for all, except the working class, forest fires right in your back yard where you can roast hotdogs and make smores ?

Same with any tobacco product. Wonder what the tax on vaping is ?

Government does not like competition when they are stealing your money.

Around $2.50 in Atlanta. Or either fluctuates 15 cents higher or lower.

It would be nice to see the pump prices list out how much in taxes is paid.

The price of gasoline in every state includes the federal tax. But state taxes will vary.

In addition, California charges sales tax on gasoline, which most states do not.

Maybe more people would think about these things, if they saw a listing on the pump showing how the pump price was arrived at.

A 5.6 cent increase? Pikers - the gas tax in Illinois goes up 19 cents a gallon on July 1. That’ll take the price per gallon up to $3.35 per gallon or higher in the burbs, probably at least $3.75 in the city, worse near downtown.

Idiots in Illinois elected a bunch of democrats last November, and now you can’t keep track of the tax increases without a scorecard.

Diesel costs more than Gasoline yet it requires less Refining.

Quite a perplexing situation.

I’m not complaining.

I just moved here from CA two Months ago.

The ridiculous price difference is completely artificial.

Diesel is sold in much lower volume and most refineries are set up to produce more gasoline than diesel per barrel refined.

Also, diesel is often taxed more in North America as governments figure that “businesses have to use it and will pay the tax without complaining.”
