We just cancelled our family trip to downtown Portland. Fun city, easy to get around. Nice jumping off point to see rivers, trails and waterfalls. But with this stuff going on, no way.

You are not missing much. Most major west coast cities are experiencing what is shown in the Youtube video “Seattle is dying”. Feces and hypodermic needles everywhere, homeless drug addicts occupying every open piece of grass and non walking open space in downtown areas, crime going through the roof, and the police are hobbled by weak kneed politicians who cater to the homeless over the tax paying citizen.
I hate to say it but I am hoping the San Andreas fault lights off, and dumps the whole of the west coast into the Pacific.
I spent a week in Portland last month and it was like the Zombie apocalypse.
Portland would be a great place, if it weren’t for the people that live there.
As an observation to my Portland comment it’s the idiot politicians they elect that screws the rest of the state. CA, OR, WA, big cities just keep electing the BUTT MONKEYS at some point you just have to say “you built your crap bed” sleep in it.

I was born in Portland in 1955. Moved to AZ in 1985 but still went back to visit family, most recently in 2004 or so. It was a really fine city in the 60s and 70s, but the deterioration was well under way by the 90s.
Now that the family has all died or moved away, I’ll probably never go there again.
