The women’s players are paid about as much as the men’s in the US despite the rhetoric. It’s the World Cup money that is different. The problem is the men’s world cup brings in $4 billion and the women’s only brings in $300 million.

To them, $4billion is the same as $300 million. See, math is hard. They care not about the revenue, just their pay check.

From that perspective, we can say that winning the women’s World Cup is like winning a gold medal in the Special Olympics. It’s great for the participants, but it doesn’t mean you’re going to see them on a box of Wheaties anytime soon.
