California gov signs health care bill extending coverage to some undocumented residents

Washington (CNN)California has become the first state to extend health care coverage to some undocumented young adults through its Medicaid program.

Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Tuesday signed SB-104, which extends health care benefits to individuals 19 to 25 years of age, regardless of their immigration status.

The bill was introduced earlier this year and was initially proposed by Newsom as part of a larger health care package. It is expected to cover some 90,000 low-income residents between the ages of 19 and 25 and to cost the state $98 million in its initial year. The coverage would take effect in 2020, according to the legislation

My mother, God rest her soul, was a resident of California for the last 71 years of her 99-year life. When she got sick and needed some help, I found that her Social Security income was too high for her to receive any assistance from any old-age public assistance whatsoever. Everyone I contacted was nice and polite, but there was nothing they could do. So she paid into California for nearly 3/4 of a century, but at the end there was nothing the state would do for her. Ok, rules are rules. When she died there was enough money left to bury her, but that was about it.

But now, I find, that an illegal alien who has like paid nothing into the system is going to get Medical benefits...I’m sorry, it just pisses me off.

My mom was in the same boat. So I found a ‘loophole’. She had rented from the same person for at least 15 years so I contacted her and explained the situation. Got her to ‘raise’ my mom’s rent $100 per month. Bam! She qualified for everything. I had worked for the welfare dept at one time so kind of knew how things worked.
