Steve Chronister was one of the most useless public officials of all times.

He was a full time golfer, part-time Realtor, and spare time County Commissioner elected mainly because (as many little old ladies told me at the polls) “he has a nice smile”.

That grin couldn’t save Chronister’s political hindmost parts when he broke ranks with the GOP to endorse Tommie (”the Commie”) Wolf for Governor.

The GOP dropped him like a hot potato. He ran as an independent that year and came in dead last.

He tried running in the GOP Primary for Commissioner this year and came in near the bottom, and probably pulled enough votes from incumbent Chris Reilly to tip the nomination to Ron Smith. Or maybe it was a negative coattail effect since Reilly and Chronister had served together for several terms.

Of course the other side has its charm, too. Sandra Thompson has had many failed campaigns for a seat on the Court of Common Pleas. She won the Democratic primary this time...as she has before.

The more she can keep milking the Grandview incident the more free name recognition she can garner.

As Shakespeare wrote, “a plague on both your houses”.

Or, as often quoted: “A pox on both your houses”. (Act III, Sc. 1)
