I think she figured the mere fact that it got a vote will be favorable enough for the Dims.
If it is percieved by the voters as just a ruse, because only how the impeachment would not clear the Senate and not because Pelosi et al were actually against impleachment, Pelosi will be seen as weak, not smart.
Trump can say that a majority of Democrats voted for him.

No. She couldn’t. An impeachment resolution is privileged and HAS to be brought to the floor for a vote. Her only option to avoid that would be to convince that nutjob Al Green to withdraw the resolution, and she knew he wouldn’t do that.
thus, she had three choices:
1. hold a vote on the resolution itself and put ever House member on the spot.
2. vote to send it to committee, which was equally unpalatable to enough Dems that that wouldn’t pass
3. vote to table the resoltion (thus effectively killing it), which was the only option where she could get enough votes from the Dems plus the GOP to achieve a majority vote ...
