The old Biden wanted to be seen as the anti-Trump, 'Mr Nice Guy' denouncing the anger and hate found in Chancellorsville; 'Mr Awe Shucks'.
Clearly that Biden was losing traction and it looks like the Biden campaign did some internal polling and found Mr. Nice guy wasn't going to cut it.

That was my first thought. I don’t believe that Biden will be allowed to criticize “candidates of color” for any reason without being called racist.
I have a big bet on Biden taking the nomination - I don’t see how any of the commies running have any chance. But after he gets the nomination, all my money goes on Trump.
I’m surprised Joe’s beloved son, Hunter, is not by his side, (sniffle) holding Joe’s hand, giving him moral support.

This really sums up the difference between democrats and republicans. A republican would get more votes by running on a platform of "we need more prisons!"
