They have the money.
They have a huge endowment.
The endowments are probably mostly restricted - only the income would be available to the university. But donors can unrestrict their contributions, which I think some donors have offered to do.
The administration doesn’t care. None of them will be fired for this expensive screw up, it’s not their money and the president still collects her $500,000 salary.
