Judge blocks New York from turning over Trump's tax information to Democrats
CNN ^ | Aug. 1, 2019 | Gregory Wallace

A federal judge on Thursday issued an order blocking New York state from turning over President Donald Trump's tax returns to congressional Democrats for now, should the House Ways and Means Committee request them through a newly passed New York law.

The limitation will be in place, Judge Carl Nichols wrote, while allowing New York to challenge whether Nichols' courtroom in Washington is the proper place for this case, brought by Trump, to move forward, and in what form it could proceed.

In a court hearing on Wednesday ahead of the order, Nichols said that his intention was to ensure "Mr. Trump cannot suffer any harm" while arguments play out.

Do Democrats not realized the precedent that they are setting here? That includes the liberal judges who think that it is okay to publicize someone’s tax returns and financial information.

Maybe they are short sighted or vengeful.

“...Nichols is a Trump nominee confirmed by the Senate earlier this year....”

Note that CNN puts this in the article on this reasonable judicial decision. But they will never say “Obama appointed judge” when talking about a District Court Judge decision going against a Trump position (until it is later overruled on appeal).

Question is, will a judge stop somebody from leaking it to the Dems?

I wonder if judges at the same level can battle with each other and overrule each other? What is the protocol?

A newly passed law. Isn’t there a law against that?

Article 1 ss 10

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

“...Andrew Amer, the attorney representing New York, told the judge on Wednesday that his clients believe the DC court does not have jurisdiction, and it would seek to have the case moved or dismissed.
The judge gave New York until next Friday to file its motion outlining why the case should not be heard in DC....”

They want to transfer it to New York ... where the DemocRAT Senators are using the Blue Slip process to stop filling of District Court Judgeship VACANCIES!

ATTENTION LINDSEY GRAHAM: please end allowing the Blue Slip process to serve as a veto of Trump’s District Court nominees.

Yes, this could seriously bite him in the ass in the future...

That is a reasonable ruling. The documents should be protected until the last appeal. There is no remedy to repair the damage to his privacy if they release them any sooner.

Ex post facto applies to making something a crime that was not a crime before the law. It does not apply on the flip side, here protecting President Trump from abuse of the law.
