Three NRA Board Members Resign Citing Leadership Incompetence
BLP ^ | Aug 2, 2019 | Jose Nino

Three members of the National Rifle Association’s board resigned on Thursday August 1, 2019.

Concerns about fiscal impropriety and mismanagement motivated the board members to resign from the organization.

The three board members — Esther Schneider of Texas, Sean Maloney of Ohio and Timothy Knight of Tennessee — claimed that they were stripped of their committee assignments after they questioned NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre’s spending habits.

BLP reported on concerns about LaPierre’s lavish spending a few months ago, which has drawn considerable criticism from members of the gun rights community.

The NRA may not last much longer.

There will always be the NRA. It just might not be able to afford to wield any real influence anymore.

If lapierre has any ethics or genuine concern about the NRA's mission, viz. protecting gun rights of Americans, he will step down immediately.

If he does not step down immediately, then he's in it solely for what it can do for him.

LaPierre did a great job with ridding the NRA of the corruption that existed 25+ years ago. He has outlived his usefulness and has morphed into the corrupt leaders who we got rid of. He needs to go.

Please, don't flame me for this but I'm really torn about this. I've been with the NRA (with some lapses) since the early 90s and Wayne Lapierre (sp) did such an outstanding job and that with the election of Heston as President, well it just seemed he (lapierre) was definitely the man to head up the NRA. I've watched countless interviews and video of him defending the 2nd Amendment, it is just not easy to believe these charges leveled against him. In fact, it was he that lit the fire under me to join the NRA. I.just.don't.get.it.

Is all of this true or is it a coup?

People forget that money is the grease that lubricates our government, sadly. Also, Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

I am a Benefactor Member of the NRA and have been a Life Member since 1969. The NRA continues to be the leading force in protecting the 2nd Amendment. Sadly the LSM is doing the damage as usual.

With that said, do you believe all of this about LaPierre or is this a coordinated effort to drive him out? What is your opinion?

I have no idea which side to believe.
Maybe they are all corrupt?

I lack the information required to judge anything other than organization as a whole.

The NRA has a checkered record when it comes to defending gun rights and anyone can succumb to corruption.

I won’t renew my membership until these bad elements are gone from the organization and I start seeing positive results. Seems like the NRA is in bed with the enemy at this point.

I believe that he has been allowed to do what he wants, without much oversight. As much I respect Col. North, my understanding is he may have wanted a cut, considering the President position is unpaid. This comes from folks who overheard conversations at the last annual meeting. I think there are far too many board members, like most organizations I think the NRA has become top heavy. I am a life member of the SAF, GOA, and Oathkeepers, so I take all of this very seriously. For people who feel they will not give money to the organizations that are working to protect their rights, what else are you going to do? Maybe run for office, get involved.

The reason I'm suspicious is because the NRA has been the target for years by the radical nutjobs in our Country. They've infiltrated every institution and have brought them down. So 'published' accusations makes me suspicious because there is the agenda: bring down the NRA and by extension (they think) all gun owners.

I'm not throwing them or LaPierre under the bus until I see some hard evidence behind the accusations. Not saying that LaPierre hasn't gone to the 'dark side' but I have to see something more than printed accusations.

btw, I know the NRA has made errors but overall they've done a good job defending the 2nd Amendment.

La pierre has been in it dor himself for some time. Million dollar salary, unlimited expense account, tens of thousands on clothes. Meanwhile the members keep asked for more money claiming they are going bankrupt. Its all a scam.

Thank you for your opinion. I'm in a 'wait and see' mode for now.

Just as an aside, when Ollie North had his own radio show back in the 90s (I believe), he was advocating mandatory drug testing for High School students. Every one of them. I don't know how you feel about that but I was opposed to it. Unless there is a reason/suspicion, I don't think anyone should be forced into a drug test (unless it's pre-employment).

Anyway, I called in and got through. I started to discuss my reasoning and he hung up on me and then proceeded to slander me on air. No biggie because no one knew who I was anyway but it sure left me with a foul taste for Oliver North. (and yes...I know he's a vet and appreciate that but that really made an impression on me).
