Trump facing unprecedented Senate resistance to routine judicial nominees, stats show
Fox News ^ | August 7, 2019 | Tyler Olson

President Trump’s judicial nominees have faced unprecedented opposition from the Senate in his first two-and-a-half years in office, records show, with Democratic senators voting against potential judges in higher numbers than at any point in American history.

Trump’s nominees for the lower courts that feed cases -- and sometimes judges -- to the U.S. Supreme Court contend with far more ‘no’ votes and delay tactics than any past president’s, according to numbers compiled by the conservative Heritage Foundation. As the Senate moved last week to confirm 13 more of Trump’s district court nominees, Majority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., blasted Democrats for delaying routine appointments.

“For too long, thoroughly uncontroversial judicial nominees just like these have been held up and delayed by our Democratic colleagues,” he said on the Senate floor. “Uncontroversial district judges used to be confirmed promptly in big groups by voice vote. These days, in a kind of protest theater, our colleagues across the aisle usually insist that we hold a cloture vote and then a rollcall confirmation vote on each one.”

From George Washington’s presidency through Barack Obama’s, just 6 percent of judges for U.S. District Court, U.S. Circuit Court and the U.S. Supreme Court received even a single ‘no’ vote, according to the Heritage Foundation. Trump’s picks are opposed by at least one senator 71 percent of the time.

Some Democrats chasing the 2020 presidential nomination have been especially averse to Trump’s nominees, as Fox News previously has reported. In the first six months of 2019, Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., didn't vote for any of Trump’s judicial picks. This is after the three senators approved just under half of the president’s nominees in the two years prior, according to Politico.

Lindsey Graham is honoring the blue slip courtesy for District judges, giving Dems veto power over judges in Dem states.

What are you talking about? They’ve received opposition, but are still being approved BECAUSE of McConnell. He’s been a fantastic champion and someone who has made things happen with regards to Judiciary nominees from the SC on down.

What exactly is your beef????

McConnell has faults but getting President Trump’s judicial nominees confirmed isn’t one of them, in my view.

If that is true, then Graham should face a PAC ad assault for it, because it will stop Trump's campaign to flip the 9th Circuit in its tracks

Certainly there are things to criticize Senator McConnell over - but in an article about how much grief he gets from Democrats over his support of Trump’s judicial nominations???

Graham is ignoring blue slip courtesy for Circuit courts, as they cover multiple states. The President has been successful with Circuit courts. It is the lower District courts that Graham is helping Dems with.

Lies, Damned Lies and of course statistics

Same people who follow polls and try to feed us them saying well everybody feels this way or that

Ok Jaz, defend your position by sharing with others just what YOU would do to make all of this better

I predict you will respond with nothing of substance to provide any wisdom of alternatives given the current state of being

OK tiger, let fly!

Some of these judicial nominees have waited over 2 years with no guarantees. A helluva way to treat folks who are highly qualified and sometimes hard to coax into accepting a federal judgeship. Mitch used the nuclear option and 19 judges were confirmed in July alone before their August 6 week recess.

Graham is a slimy little establishment hack. Owned by the cheap labor express. Anti-Trumper.

Fist off I don't quite understand where you're coming from.

What was stated in the article are not lies and the statistics are right on.

My position is the RATs are on an all out obstructionist crusade for not only Trumps judicial nominees but most everything he tries to do.

How's that for you, tiger?

Susan Collins has made up a small group to stop Trump.
